The Matt Dann Theatre and Cinema has been nominated for ‘Western Australian Presenter of the Year’ in CircuitWest’s Pinnacle Performing Arts Awards, which celebrate excellence in the WA live performance industry.
The venue’s nomination is in recognition of the diverse program of events offered to the community, resilience during the pandemic and a passion for growing grassroots performing arts opportunities in Hedland.
Mayor Peter Carter said the nomination reflected the positive impact the Matt Dann has in the community.
“After a tough few years for creative industries, the Matt Dann stands strong as a vibrant venue dedicated to offering live performances, films and workshops for all ages to enjoy throughout the year,” Mayor Carter said.
“This Presenter of the Year award nomination is made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of the Town’s employees, who have helped bring shows such as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow, Mama Stitch and so much more to the local stage."
Mayor Peter Carter acknowledged the support provided by the venue to cultivate the growth of grassroots performing arts in the town, particularly through supporting the endeavours of Hedland Amateur Theatre.
“I’m pleased the Town continues to deliver on the outcomes of the Arts and Culture Strategy, including building a reputation as a place for makers and creators and amplifying local stories."
“Congratulations to the Town’s Matt Dann and Community Development Teams on the nomination - I look forward to finding out which venue wins the award later in the year.”
